Pai Lum Kung Fu breathing is done by using a technique called
circular breathing from the tan tien.
On
inhalation, air is taken in through the nose, follows an imaginary
path over the head, down the neck and spine, and turns in towards the
Tan tien. The tan tien is a point in the body located approximately
one inch below the navel.
On
exhalation the air is let out of the body by following another
imaginary path out of the tan tien, back out to the spine, up the
spine and neck, and out of the mouth.
When the air is inhaled, keep the lips together, but do not use
pressure on the lips.
When
the air is exhaled, let the lips separate naturally. Do not open the
mouth wide.
Remember:
In through the nose, Out through the mouth.
Now,
in order to get the breathing apparatus functioning, it is important
to use the abdominal muscles on inhalation to expand and pull the
diaphragm muscle down, this creates a stronger pressure inside the
lungs than on the outside and the lungs expand. Then, to
exhale, pull in on the abdominal muscles, causing the diaphragm to
rise, creating a stronger pressure on the outside of the lungs, and
the lungs compact, causing the air to leave the body.
Remember:
Inhale, make the belly fat, Exhale, make the belly flat.
